Method Acting and Becoming The Joker
As most of you know, Jared Leto is the newest live action Joker that is going to be hitting the big screen soon. Suicide Squad is due for release on August 5th, 2016 and there is a ton of controversy over just how well the newest Joker will do. When it was first announced that he will be taking the role, there was uncertainty as to whether he was fit for the job. Then the first pictures of him in costume came out, and the Internet exploded with criticism. Of course the major complaint is how he looks, with the tattoos that Joker is covered in and the grill taking up his smile. People hated it and immediately started bashing the look. What people seem to forget is that when the first pictures of Heath Ledger's Joker emerged they were hated as well, being called sloppy and that he looked like a hobo. But the Joker needs changes or we will be burnt out with the same thing over and over again. The Joker made his first appearance in 1940, and has gone through immense changes since then, and will continue to change into future to stay interesting.
Although the style is different than what we are used to, it is a new Joker for a new generation and changes should be expected. And as for the actor himself, Jared Leto is an Oscar winner who has also been nominated for nearly seventy other awards, winning fifty of them. They would not pick an actor who isn't talented to play one of the most iconic villains of all time. Jared Leto is also a method actor, who has reportedly refused to break character even off the set since filming began. Some are concerned about this with the unfortunate death of Heath Ledger getting too into the role possibly causing his death, but it shows his devotion. I personally believe Jared Leto will not let us down with a new Joker that will both scare and enthrall us as he has always been known to do.
