Heidi Mae Captures The Essence Of Princess Leia

Heidi Mae is one stellar cosplay artist, not only is she incredibly beautiful in her portrayals of Princess Leia, but incredibly well versed and knowledgeable when it comes to everything concerning George Lucas' space opera. JKA sits down with Heidi to discuss all things Star Wars, and we received some incredible responses. More often than not we are met with “models” who know next to nothing about who or what they are portraying, but this cosplay artist caught us off guard when asked what she actually likes about Princess Leia and why she wanted to be photographed in her likeness, “I love the fact that she isn't a helpless damsel in distress! She takes charge of her own rescue on the deathstar! [She's] So awesome, independent, strong, and capable! In my opinion One of the best female characters in science fiction. I just hope I do her justice! And in return of the Jedi is on the front lines of Han Solo's rescue” After my nose stopped bleeding and I raised myself back into the interview position she goes on to say, “So it's great to portray a character with that strength and courage!”

when asked how she felt about the new rumors circulating the internet about the possibility that Han Solo, the scruffy nerf herder himself, will die in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Heidi responds in a way I wish I

could respond to the question myself, but being that I write for JKA Gear I crawl across more spoilers than I would like to. However Heidi says, “I hadn't heard that one! I'm actually trying my hardest to avoid any leaks or spoilers. Since my favorite part of cinema is to be surprised and get lost in the story. I feel like if I know what's going to happen. It takes a lot of the fun away. That being said. Part of the beauty of storytelling is when it makes you feel. And two of my favorite shows are the walking dead, and Attack On Titan. Where they kill of a lot of the main characters. So it would come down to how good the story was.”

When inquired about her thoughts on the upcoming anthology films Heidi said that she was really keeping her fingers crossed for a Obi Wan Kenobi stand alone film, so naturally we asked her if he was her favorite character

from the Star Wars series of films and shows. She says Obi Wan is hands down her favorite character, “He lost his mentor, and promised him that he would make Anakin a Jedi, so he then raises and trains the Jedi who becomes Darth Vader. And slaughters the Jedi. I imagine the guilt of that would have haunted him for his entire life. And that he stayed on Tatooine as a way of penance. He then raises and begins training the son of the man who betrayed him and the entire order. I just feel like there is such a story of atonement there”.

After we said our goodbyes and concluded the interview, I was really taken back by the whole discussion. Recently I had lost faith, thinking that most, if not all cosplay models have no idea what they're doing or talking about. Heidi is not only one of the most beautiful and talented cosplay artists I've ever had the pleasure of talking with, but also is so well versed when discussing the stories and characters that she models as. She really knows who and what she is portraying and stands above the majority of models in the cosplay realm.
