So it's official, Marvel has announced the actor who will be playing the new Spider Man in the third reboot in less than fifteen years. Now, we have known that Sony has been working on getting the cast together for the movie for some time, but many of us were probably hoping this would just fall through. It has come to a close, and the new Spider Man has finally been chosen. The actor is a young man named Tom Holland.
Holland is the youngest star to take on the role of Peter Parker, at just 19 years old. Toby McGuire was 26 when he starred in the first Spider Man movie, and 31 when he completed Spider Man 3. Andrew Garfield was 29 in The Amazing Spiderman and 31 in the second film. This makes Holland being 7 years younger than any of the other actors to play Peter Parker. Age might not be a factor, since there are many skilled actors who are not very old, but it is still a big difference.
Holland is best known for playing the lead role the London musical play "Billy Elliot" and a handful of other not very well known movies. This brings more hesitation as to how well he will be able to preform. Of course there is still the chance that he can knock this out of the park, but we will have to wait and see.
It baffles me why Marvel is deciding to do another reboot so soon when they just did one three years ago. As stated before, this will be the third reboot since 2002 and the sixth Spider Man movie since then. Why doesn't Marvel just use Garfield to play the roll for whatever they have planned for Spidey? Which is rumored to be joining The Avengers, but we'll have to see about that too. I am reserved to see this new movie but my love for comic book movies will surely bring me into the theater to see it anyway. We will just have to wait to learn more about it before making any more judgments.
