Almost thirty years after the release of back to the future we've finally arrived in the exact year Marty Mcfly traveled to in Doc Brown's Delorean, and our technology isn't so far off from what we saw in the 1989 Classic. The Lexus Hoverboard was just announced and has swept the internet with a promising video ad for their product. An independent contractor has developed the device for testing, however it only being able to work in a controlled environment...For now.
Lexus spokesman Moe Durand made a statement that the product works, but the only problem is that the board only works in that controlled environment. Lexus goes on to say that the product is “amazing in motion” generating magnetic levitation through nitrogen-cooled superconductors and ground magnets that are permanent.
But in the commercial the kid riding it is on a side walk, so what gives?
Well, sorry to break your hearts, but that's because there are magnets underneath the concrete surface. Which would more than likely have to be installed to make the hoverboard dream a reality. Also going along with
the Back to the Future theme, Nike is set to release the self lacing shoes later on this year. So the power shoes are a go, and we're still working out the bugs for the board. I can live with that.
Lexus' executive vice president assured that, "At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible," which is why they are so heavily invested in this project, and I thought they just made luxury vehicles.
