Don't Touch That Dial

Keep Your Friends Close, You Never Know When They're Going To Land You A Role In A Star Wars Mov

Imagine yourself sitting on your sofa playing video games and your phone rings. It's your long time friend J.J. Calling, and instead of sending him right to voicemail because of that sh*t Star Trek movie he made, you decide to pick up and catch up with your old pal. He's got the biggest news of your entire life and explains that he just landed the directing position for Star Wars Episode VII and wants you to be in the film. Well this is exactly the call that Greg Grunberg, who really lucked out after his epic roles in Hawaii Five-O and the Masters of Sex TV series got and is now signed on for three films. (Nah I'm not jealous at all) He also plays an X-Wing pilot (Okay maybe a little bit)

Grunberg was asked by Entertainment Weekly about his role in The Force Awakens and begs him for the smallest

of details, Greg responds with, “I can’t talk about who I play or what I did. But just imagine that you get a call from your best friend saying, “It’s true, I’m doing Star Wars and you can stop begging me, yes, I want you to be in this movie.” It was an absolute dream come true. I have been such a fan of all the actors and everything about Star Wars. … Some people may not have loved some of the movies, but it’s a whole world you can’t deny how super compelling and awesome it is, and I can’t believe I’m part of it. Like there were moments when J.J. would yell, ‘Cut’,’ and then come over to me and go, ‘Are you f–king kidding me? Did that just happen? Did I just pan from C-3PO to R2-D2 to Han Solo and then to you?’ I spent seven weeks in London and it was heaven. And it’s crazy cause usually I’m the first person that J.J. calls to bounce ideas off. This one is so top secret, and so on lockdown, that all I can do is ask him, ‘How’s it going?’ and he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m really happy.’ So I know ifhe’s happy it’s just gonna be incredible.”

Okay so he doesn't really tell us much, but it does reassure us that his best buddy in the whole wide world is happy with his movie. Going on to say that the special effects are as important as the practical ones, so this means that a lot of the puppeteering and other real elements will play a major role as they pay homage to the original trilogy. Which can reassure us that with a maestro like Abrams, this opera should go off without a hitch. In his interview Grunberg boasts himself as a Star Wars junkie, which actually makes me feel very at home with him. I like the terminology he used and kind of believe him when he talks about being a fan of the series. He went on to say that the actors in this movie aren't allowed to prepare before their scenes. The script being so secretive it had been printed on red pages and impossible to take a picture of, and they must be turned in when filming has concluded. He even went on to say that Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) said that, “This is crazy! An actor does not get to prepare on this movie” Even the main players in this game aren't even allowed to take the scripts home to memorize their lines.

After reading his interview I started liking Greg more and more, he just seems so excited to be part of this movie's history and claims that everything he's seen Abrams and Disney create looks to him like a movie poster and that the film will be incredibly satisfying for everyone. That there has been such a keen eye for detail that not matter how much you loved the original films this one will be iconic. Disney is really squeezing the franchise in a creative way to satisfy it's fans.
