Crocheting Super Mario Bros. 3 For Six Years.
Six years is a lot of time to invest in anything. Let alone a crocheted version of the Super Mario 3 map. However some people have the patience of a Chinese executioner when it comes to perfecting their art, and for Kjetil Nordin, who put over eight hundred hours into a recreation of a World Map made completely out of yarn, it came as no easy task.
Nordin says, “I've spent eight hundred hours crocheting and many hours researching and searching for the correct yarn. When the water was half way finished I saw that I had chosen the wrong shade of blue. It was almost purple, and very ugly, so I had to undo all of it. That took and extra week.”
There's something to be said about a man who is so dedicated to his work that he would go back and rework the crocheting of an entire area of the Super Mario Bros. 3 “World 1”, just because it was the wrong shade of blue. He went on to say that his project, “Hasn't taken all of my time. You get a bit sick of such long lasting projects. The great thing is that I've been able to take as many breaks as I've wanted to”.
The Norwegian is thirty one years old and lives in Roskilde, Denmark working as a computer programmer. Which kind of explains the whole love of retro video game crochet art, and if you're going to pay homage to any of the NES titles. It might as well be the third highest-selling game in the consoles history. His crocheted creation (Which is in fact a blanket) measures about 2.2 by 1.8 meters.
